The definition of a simile is a figure of speech that uses two unlike things that are explicitly compared with the words "like or as". Even though similes and metaphorsare both forms of comparison, similes allow the two ideas to remain distinct in spite of their similarities, whereas metaphors compare two things without using "like" or "as" but you will learn about metaphors from another group.
Examples:
The red roses are like silk in my hands. The desserts is as sweet as candy. The sun is as hot as an oven. She is as annoying as nails scratching on a chalkboard. Curley was flopping like a fish on a line.
